A New Year - Happy and Sad

A new year is here and, as always, there are happy things and sad things. Happy means Samantha is growing and well. Caleb, my grandson, is well.

The sad is my mother, Marjorie Fox of McConnelsville, Ohio, passed away at 2 P.M. Eastern, today the 28th of January, 2009. She was 90 years old.

Snows Aftermath and Samantha Ann

The snow is going away, traffic is in better shape with the roads greatly improved, and I have a new granddaughter! Samantha Ann Voelkel was born on December 18 at 7:56 pm EST in Savannah, Georgia. She weighed in at 8 pounds. Mother and daughter are doing fine; Dad is frazzled but proud as punch. Congratulations, Rob and Holly!

The beautiful and the messy sides of snow

The snow has stopped. Here in Henderson , we received 8 inches; other areas in the Vegas valley received 1 to 6 inches. Mt. Charleston, the highest point in Nevada, got 11 inches. The messy side - traffic is still snarled, roads are closed, slush and accidents. The beautiful side - the mountains and my chihuahua in snow for the first time. He hates it.

First post!

This is my first post in any blog. Today is another unique day in the Vegas Valley - SNOW! Not just a few flakes, but at least five (5) inches in our area (Henderson). Other areas got 3 to 6 inches or more and traffic has been snarled all day. There are no snowplows or sander vehicles here, so all roads are a mess. It started at about 1pm this afternoon and has continued. Now, at 9pm, it is starting to quit. Here are a few photos.
